The Volcano Café is in the historic port town of Lyttelton (15 minutes by cab or 30 minutes by bus from the centre of Christchurch).

Here's an idea. Spend the afternoon exploring the town or taking a boat trip on the harbour.

Then make your way to the Lava Bar for a long, cool sundowner in the secluded, flower-filled courtyard before taking your seat in the restaurant and making your choice from the international menu that features great steaks, fresh fish, spicy enchiladas, curry, local seafood, vegetarian options, crisp salads and much more.
